Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between the dimensions of perfectionism, anxiety and depressive symptoms. A total of 159 students participated in this study, with 83 students from Social Science and 76 students from Hospitality Management. Data were analysed using Hewitt-Flett Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (HFMPS), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI: Y-6 item), and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). No significant relationships were found between anxiety and dimensions of perfectionism. Socially-prescribed perfectionism (SOP) (r=.240, p <.05) is significantly and positively related to depressive symptoms. Significant relationships existed between self-oriented perfectionism (SOP) (r=.570, p <.05), other-oriented perfectionism (OOP) (r=.353, p <.05), and SPP (r=.560, p <.05) with CGPA. Significant gender differences were observed only in OOP. No significant differences were found between students of Social Science and Hospitality Management. Combined research design is proposed as recommendations to aid in improving future studies.
