Abstract

Tourism is a rapidly growing sector in many countries, and so, this sector has become an important contributor to many countries' economies, as well as in Malaysia. This study is to examine the contribution of tourism to Malaysia’s economic growth. The data collected in this study is from 1998 to 2019. The independent variables in this study are labour, real capital and real tourism receipts per capita, while the dependent variable in this study is economic growth of Malaysia. Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) also included to this study to examine the MM2H’s contribution to Malaysia’s economic growth. The result showed that the MM2H is insignificant to economic growth in Malaysia. In this case, it is suggested that the Malaysian Government not to continue MM2H program. On the other hand, real tourism receipt per capita is significant to the economic growth of Malaysia. Therefore, the Malaysian Government should focus on the tourism sector in Malaysia.
