Abstract

Personality Hardiness has been linked to help reduce stressful levels and to certain degree in preventing Athlete Burnout. While many studies have been researched on nonsport setting such as on Nurses and Firefighters, in a sport setting have been underwhelmingly not been researched extensively. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to study the relationship between personality hardiness and athlete burnout among Tunku Abdul Rahman University College students-athletes. A total of 68 student-athletes had participated in the current study. The questionnaire that was used in the study were Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS-15) and Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ 15). The demographic data that was used were according to age, gender, sports injury, sports types, level of education, level of sports performance, and years of participation. The student-athletes were given a link to click upon where they were directed to the questionnaire and were briefed on the purpose of the study online. They were required to fill out the consent form, the demographic data and the two questionnaires. After that, an analysis was done and thus, the results showed there were correlation between Personality Hardiness and Athlete Burnout. There were significant differences for Athlete Burnout according to the level of sports performance. In conclusion, the results in this study indicated there is correlation between the two questionnaire and the significant differences for athlete burnout.
