Abstract

The study attempts to discover different illustrative possibilities to portrait scenarios about domestic violence towards women and use illustration book to provoke the feelings of the audience to resonate with them. Through the exploration of the visual of the illustration book, the researcher acts as a designer to experience different visual elements that could have a strong impact to the audience with well planned compositions of the illustration in each scenario. The illustration book is to approach the target audience which is the victims of domestic violence and to enhance the social awareness in the society as well. The illustration book will present the real life happening by using visual metaphor which will carry meaning in each element. Illustration book is a material to approach the society and publishing at the right place with a supportive NGO or Community will be an effective method to approach the victim as well. The scope of this study is to define the visual elements that could provoke audience emotions and deliver the message to the audience effectively to be able to enhance the social awareness in the society. The researcher has the privilege to interview Ms Elanor Chuah, an illustrator who has experience in creating illustration posters about women rights and exhibit it as well and Mr Tang Xiao Ming, an illustrator who has experience in creating illustration posters about social awareness. The researcher also had received the information and samples from an illustrator, Ms Charis Loke for more insight about the progression of doing an illustration poster. The researcher also did case study based on the project that they had done that related to the research study and for data analysis purposes as well.
