Abstract

The legacy system has been used for a long time by the Programme Leaders of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) until today. It includes the well-known Microsoft Office software and Google software. Although this legacy system may support the work of the Programme Leaders, it still has its drawbacks. They are inefficient, lowers productivity and are prone to errors. Therefore, a customized software would be suitable for the management of FOCS. This system will be developed specifically for the Programme Leaders of FOCS and fully customized from scratch to suit their needs. It is named Faculty Office Automation System. It will provide all the functionality required and extra features that the legacy system lacks to further improve the usability, efficiency and productivity of the system. The system will have six main modules. Firstly, Programme Structure Maintenance will primarily be used to maintain all the programme structures for all the student in FOCS. Secondly, Semester Workload is used by the Programme Leaders to plan the workload of each lecturers and tutors. Thirdly, Student Maintenance will allow the Programme Leaders to maintain the total number of students in each tutorial groups. Next, Users Module prevents unauthorized access to the system and manages user’s credentials. Moreover, Examination Module 1 is used by the Programme Leaders to assign examiners, moderators and reviewers in examinations. Lastly, Examination Module 2 will be used by the Programme Leaders to assign markers and reviewers for marked scripts. For this project, the Software Development Process Model to be used is the Incremental Model. The system will be developed increment by increment until the complete system is formed when all the increments are combined to form one complete system. In conclusion, this new system will greatly benefit the management of FOCS especially the Programme Leaders in their tasks.
