Abstract

This research study focused on an investigation into environmental impacts of infrastructure projects such as roads, highways, LRT and MRT construction. A cross sectional study method was deployed together with a non-random sample population. Data were collected using questionnaire survey. The target respondents were construction professionals from industry and residents residing near the infrastructure projects. The data collected were analysed by using descriptive statistics from SPSS software Amongst the research findings, the most common environmental impact is the safety issues whereby inadequate safety measures increases safety risks and hazards for public members. Furthermore, the most effective measure to mitigate the environmental impacts is the implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in roads, highways, LRT, and MRT construction projects. Noise pollution and traffic congestions generated by the infrastructure projects seem the dominant environmental impacts experienced by residents residing nearby. While for the most well-managed impact by the project management team in the view of respondents is the erosion and sedimentation of soil. The research findings can serve as useful information to enhance awareness of environmental impacts associated with infrastructure projects in the construction industry.
