Abstract

Nowadays, Malaysia is becoming an ageing nation. It is important to determine the housing needs for the Malaysian senior to offer an appropriate facility, so that senior citizen can live independently in a comfortable and safe environment. An appropriate current housing aspect, housing characteristics and future housing needs are needed to fulfil all the different backgrounds of senior population. This study aims to identify the housing needs for all the Malaysian seniors. The objectives of this study are to identify the satisfaction of Malaysian seniors on their current housing aspects, to investigate the preference of housing characteristics among Malaysian seniors and to determine the future housing needs for senior living in Malaysia. In order to achieve the objectives, literature review is conducted. Quantitative method was applied in the primary data collection which involves questionnaire survey through online delivery. Henceforth, 74 responses had been obtained through online questionnaire survey. With the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), descriptive and inferential analysis such as one-way ANOVA were adopted to determine the research objectives. In brief, this research concluded that the level of satisfaction on current housing respects and preference of housing characteristics among Malaysian seniors are above average to some extent; and most of the seniors have a strong willingness to stay with their family members for future housing needs. At last, these findings could serve as references for the housing needs for all the Malaysian seniors.
