Abstract

Global warming is influencing either directly or indirectly, moulding people to become more alert and aware of the environment effects of the mankind (Sivadasan & Basiruddin, 2019). Thus, the topic of environmental protection and sustainability is leading and discuss among the public. In the property sector, a new term such as green housing development s have appeared. Green housing development which means sustainable green development with environmentally friendly and sustainable green features that ranges from design, construction and maintenance (Sivadasan & Basiruddin, 2019). In general, according to (Brundtland, 2008), sustainability is defined as the development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is believed that due to the competition among of the developer in Malaysia, many developers have adopted the sustainable property to attract the customers. However, current property market is demonstrating the rise of overhang properties in Malaysia. Therefore, the property developers need to be modified the consumers’ needs market demands instead of environmental issues. The sustainable construction practices are considered an obstacle to achieving short-term economic factors due to high operating costs. To ensure that those concerted efforts are not only skin deep in its impact, the research is aim to explores the implementation of sustainable construction by property developers in Malaysia. More efforts is necessary to boost towards a sustainable built environment.
