Abstract

The purpose of this system is to assist small businesses like hardware store, DIY shops to have their own inventory management system. This system is working together with the sales management system to allow POS (Point of Sales) take place and at the same time perform necessary updates on the inventory. Sales and inventory management using tools like Excel does not favour business growth as the inventory requirement is getting complex, Excel is highly unlikely to become a viable solution to the company. A point of sales system together with inventory management is proposed to an estimated 72 500 small scope businesses in Malaysia who plan to implement digitization and be in trend with the 4.0 Industry revolution. So their market will no longer be restricted to the local neighbourhood but able to expand to the entire Malaysia. The system is an online web that could increase the chances to reach out more customers where it is convenient for the customers to do shopping without having to visit the physical store, at the same time the staff are able to view real time data and perform inventory management accordingly. Inventory management is the focus here, so functional areas like quantity update, product availability is the basis, modules involved are product, supplier and supply. An incremental approach is applied in the development of this project, to develop the core functions, only then increase the density with sub functions like promoting products (ads). Thus, the testing is highly stressing on the update accuracy on the product’s quantity. Overall, the system can perform adequately on quantity update, controlling product’s availability, sending RFQ (request for quotation) and PO (purchase order) to suppliers using the system. Yet the system can improve on suggesting suitable suppliers to reorder products
