Abstract

The title of this project is Development of a Pedometer based on Accelerometer & Piezoelectric Sensing. The main function of this project is used for counting the number of footstep when the user is walking on the road. It has the BLE device to transmit the number of steps data to the user’s mobile phone. This project is suitable the people who needs to lose weight and have the obesity or overweight. It is because the research says that a people who can walk 10,000 steps per day can maintain the body health and can burn some certain calories to maintain the body shape of a person. The literature has been reviewed in 3 parts which are specification of existing pedometers, Methods to test the accuracy of existing pedometer and the step sensing method of pedometer. These journals are helped a lot to learn and know more detail about these knowledge to finding a best method to complete this project. In methodology, the block diagram has been constructed to show the overall function and the process flow of this project. The flow chart and Gantt chart has been constructed to show the overall process flow of doing this project in these 2 semesters. For the result and discussion, the experiment has been carried out to test about the correct data position of the accelerometer, radio communication, test the accuracy of FYP project with the existing pedometers and development of android apps. In conclusion, the project has a lot of improvement to carried out to become a better product or pedometer. It can reduce the size of the project become more smaller and smaller and become more easily to carry the project. The pedometer can be included the piezoelectric energy harvesting to have the function self-generate electricity by itself, so it does not need the battery to power up the whole pedometer. The apps still can be improved to become more user friendly and add on the function about the heart rate and the distance that the user walk. The pedometer still can add on the heartbeat sensor which is the proximity sensor.
