Abstract

Expenses Tracker Application is a software designed to help individuals or businesses track, manage, and analyze their expenses. However, there are some drawbacks associated with existing mobile expense tracking applications that affect the overall user experience cumulatively. Firstly, most of the expenses tracker applications provide only manual entry options for expense data, lacking support for automatic receipt extraction. This will increase the likelihood of input mistakes in recording expenses, leading to inaccuracies in financial tracking and requiring more time to input their expenses data. Besides, most of the applications do not provide financial guidance for the user which poses a significant obstacle for users, particularly those with limited financial literacy. This limitation significantly hinders users' from making informed decisions regarding budgeting, savings, or investments. Moreover, while many expense tracker applications cater to the general population, there exists a notable gap in addressing the specific needs of certain groups. In recent times, the alarming rate of student dropouts has emerged as a pressing concern. To mitigate this issue, a mobile expenses tracker application tailored explicitly for university students has come to our mind to overcome the problems mentioned and will be able to help students to effectively organize and plan their finances and potentially reduce the dropout rate. The expenses tracker application includes several proposed modules including user management module, expense tracking module, chatbot module, budgeting and financial goal module and reporting module. The application is developed using Rapid Application Development (RAD) model, and developed using IDE such as Visual Studio Code and Android Studio, React Native framework while using Javascript and Typescript as the programming language. After the development phase, rigorous testing has been done on the functionalities of the application with the assistance of test cases. Eventually, the Student Personal Expenses Tracker Mobile Application's proposed functions were successfully developed and the objectives were met within a span of approximately three months.
