Abstract
Symbolism has existed since prehistoric times, commonly utilized in recording history and communication. In the micro sense, symbols are created utilizing multiple aspects. This study aims to uncover the interaction between symbols and society by utilizing the theory of multimodality and symbolic interactionism to investigate symbolism in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The study incorporates natural observation, collecting 71 symbols relating to the Israel-Hamas conflict, as well as a questionnaire that was responded by 47 respondents, whereby their responses were utilized to uncover the cycle of symbolic interactionism. The findings suggest that there are multiple modes of multimodality that the symbols incorporate as well as the process of interaction between members of society and said symbols, where the symbols affect the worldviews, actions, and decisions of the individuals.
