Abstract
Mental health issues, particularly those arising from academic pressures and family relationship challenges, are increasing among university students in Malaysia. Resilience plays a crucial role in helping students navigate these difficulties. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and resilience, as well as gender differences in resilience, among university students in Klang Valley, Malaysia. A total of 102 students participated, completing the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). The Spearman’s rho correlation results revealed a significant positive relationship between the Big Five personality traits and resilience. Additionally, the Mann-Whitney U test showed no significant gender differences in resilience levels. These findings suggest that higher education institutions should implement gender-neutral strategies to enhance resilience and provide better support for students in managing academic and personal challenges.
