Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving world, the transformation of ordinary homes into smart homes has surged in popularity, driven by technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), sensors, smartphones, smart appliances, cloud computing, and digital assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri. Initially designed to enhance the lives of nondisabled individuals by offering security, energy efficiency, and convenient control over devices like lighting, HVAC systems, door locks, and appliances, smart home innovations are now making a significant impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities and limited mobility. This project focuses on a smart lighting system controlled through voice commands, leveraging the power of cloud-based apps like Google Assistant. By integrating a Wi-Fi-enabled ESP8266 (LiLon NodeMCU V3) microcontroller, the system connects to a network, enabling seamless communication between the user and smart appliances through voice commands. The use of cloud services and Wi-Fi provides a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution for controlling home lighting and other devices, enhancing both convenience and accessibility.
