Abstract
In response to growing environmental concerns and the global push for sustainable development, organisations are increasingly adopting environmentally responsible practices. This study investigates the influence of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) and Transformational Leadership (TL) on employees’ Organisational Citizenship Behaviour for the Environment (OCBE), with Perceived Organisational Support (POS) serving as a mediating variable. Grounded in Social Exchange Theory, Organisational Support Theory, and Ability-Motivation-Opportunity Theory, the research aims to explore how these organisational and leadership factors can foster voluntary pro-environmental behaviours among employees. A quantitative, cross-sectional research design was employed to collect primary data through a survey questionnaire distributed to 200 employees working in Malaysia. The data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS. The findings reveal that both GHRM and TL have significant positive effects on POS and OCBE. Moreover, POS significantly mediates the relationship between TL and OCBE, but does not mediate the relationship between GHRM and OCBE. These findings contribute to the theoretical advancement of OCBE and offer practical insights for organisations aiming to strengthen their environmental sustainability efforts through effective HRM and leadership practices. Implications for policy and directions for future research are also discussed.
