Abstract
This study aims to develop a tailored Risk Management and Internal Control (RMIC) framework for Golden Top Security Door Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) transitioning into a mid-sized industrial manufacturer. Through a structured operational analysis, the research identifies critical vulnerabilities stemming from the organisation’s highly centralised leadership and its historical reliance on informal, undocumented procedures. Five primary risks were evaluated: executive keyperson dependency, inadequate standard operating procedures (SOPs), supply chain material wastage, occupational safety exposure, and brand dilution across the expanding dealer network. To mitigate these vulnerabilities, the study proposes a practical governance architecture incorporating a Delegation of Authority (DoA) matrix, the Three Lines of Defence model, ERP-integrated performance metrics, and stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The findings conclude that formalising internal controls is not merely a regulatory compliance exercise but a vital strategic enabler. By shifting from a reactive, founder-led management style to a proactive, data-driven governance environment, the proposed framework empowers the organisation to alleviate operational bottlenecks, preserve capital, and confidently sustain its regional expansion while actively safeguarding its workforce and brand equity.
