Abstract
Theft and shoplifting are still issues that affect profitability and sustainability of retail shop businesses. Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems are still widely used by most retail shops but it faces limitations like inconsistent detection range, false alarms and bulky tags. To overcome these limitations, this project will use Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) to develop RFID Anti-Theft System (RATS) to provide a reliable and versatile solution. RATS uses small and compact RFID tags with RFID readers to monitor merchandise, and its alarm system will use LEDs and buzzers when potential theft is detected. This project will involve system designing, component assembly and testing of detection accuracy. RATS strives to effectively reduce false alarms and allow all merchandise items to be easily applied with wide range. With improved accuracy, convenience and adaptability, RATS aims to minimize losses, improve security, and create safer environment for customers and employees alike.
