Abstract
Nowadays, elder people and individuals who are visually impaired face some challenges in mobility and navigation during daily activities. Lack of vision often limit their ability to move independently and safety in daily life. which can affect their safety. Traditional walking sticks only provide basic physical support. Therefore, with the advancement of technology, an Iot-based Multipurpose Walking Stick with Sensor-based Obstacle Detection and GPS Tracking was designed to enhance safety, confidence, and independence for visually impaired and elderly users. The proposed walking stick is equipped with a combination of sensors and components, like ultrasonic sensor, IR sensor, and buzzer. Firstly, ultrasonic sensor is used for obstacle detection, when an object is detected in the path, the sensor will trigger a buzzer produce alert to notify user immediately. Besides that, the IR sensor is equipped to detect the change in staircase at the same time to reduce the likelihood of falls. Furthermore, there are integration with GPS tracking system. It allows real-time location sharing with caregiver or family members. They can access the location of user through mobile application if user get lost or in danger. Then, the smart walking stick was designed with lightweight materials, which can make it portable and user-friendly. Lastly, the device is costeffective, which is affordable for everyone in the world. This project is aligned with Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9). The aim of this project is to improve the mobility and safety of elderly user and also individuals who are visually impaired in their daily life.
