Abstract

This project focuses on the design and development of a voice-controlled wheelchair prototype with obstacle detection to assist stroke patients in moving independently and safely. Traditional wheelchairs require manual control, which can be difficult for patients with limited mobility. The main problem addressed in this project is the need for a user-friendly and reliable wheelchair that can be easily controlled by patients who are still able to speak. The objective of this project is to develop a system that responds to simple voice commands to control the movement of the wheelchair. The methodology involves the use of a microcontroller, a mobile application for voice recognition, and a motor driver to control the movement of the wheelchair. Communication between the mobile application and the microcontroller is achieved through a Bluetooth module. An ultrasonic sensor is also integrated to detect obstacles and automatically stop the wheelchair to ensure user safety. The prototype was developed and tested to evaluate its functionality, reliability, and response to voice commands. The results show that the wheelchair is able to respond effectively to basic commands such as “forward,” “backward,” “left,” and “right.” The obstacle detection system successfully prevents collisions by stopping the wheelchair when an object is detected. In conclusion, this project demonstrates a practical and effective solution for improving mobility and safety for stroke patients through the use of voice-controlled technology.
