Abstract
In Malaysia which consists of many races such as Malays, Chinese and Indians, communal dining during festivals, family gatherings or even some big events often involve a large group of people sharing meals or foods at the same table no matter standing or sitting. Therefore, traditional rotating trays, though culturally significant, often face challenges such as limited capacity, the need of manual effort to rotate the dishes that are heavy and requires more power, and also reduced accessibility in large dining settings. So, to address these kinds of problems, this project introduces a Smart Rotating Tray System which are designed and developed to enhance the user’s convenience, efficiency, also the dining experience of the users through automation and interactive control. The system consists of three functional modules, which have a semi-automatic extendable tray that powered by a DC gear motor with encoder to accommodate larger dining tables, an automated rotation module by using a stepper motor and ultrasonic sensor for specific control and obstacle detection, and last but not least a user-interactive sub-system which utilize the piezoelectric tap sensors and RGB LED strip indicators for tap-based input and visual feedbacks. Thus, by combining these three modules, the proposed system can minimize the manual contact of the users, reduce user effort, and introduce the customizable operation modes, also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal of Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) which supports the modern trends in smart living and digital dining solutions.
