Abstract

Excess items and goods in large quantity are often stored within a compartment such as boxes, shelves, racks and containers for future usage. However, multiple products each with various types of variants becomes difficult to properly track and manage the status and stock for every item in an inventory. Traditional method for inventory management includes physical logbook, simple excel datasheet and barcode. As the number of items increases, the possibility of human error rises exponentially as a management system now needs to simultaneously monitor and record the distribution process of multiple items. One way to counter the said issues is by implementing a RFID based inventory management system. When items undergo any transportation processes, a “tag” stored with the specific data containing the information of that item will be registered and stored into a digital database. This proposal aims to eliminate the potential errors in wrong item counts and misidentification of item type. By integrating a RFID system, inventory management can be managed and operated more efficiently and accurately.
