Abstract

The main purpose for carrying out this project is for the partial fulfilment of the requirement for Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Information Security. This project is about a local password manager that named as “ExpertPass”. It is a system where login IDs and passwords are stored by the user into the system. Whenever the user needs them they can either view it as a reference or directly use them to log in to a corresponding website. Since it is a local system, hence no internet usage is needed and the database will be stored in the client’s computer. The platform available for this system would be on computer platform installed with Microsoft Windows. The scope of this project covers Authorisation Module, Interaction to targets, Password Management, Software Configuration, Encryption Services, Hash Key Services, Steganography, Anti-Keylogging and Database Management. This project is developed under the methodology of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), while the methodology to design is Unified Model Language (UML) where use case diagram and activity diagram are used. Programming language used for the system is C# using the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012. Microsoft Office is the main tool for preparing documentation. The development phase underwent are as shown below in order: Background study, Facts gathering, Requirement analysis, System Design, Developing and finally, Software Testing. Background study helps to plan the project outline, facts gathering produces result from researching through survey, literature review and etc, while requirement analysis produces SRS. Afterwards, system design will be producing the flows and design of processes based on the SRS. After the developing stage, a workable system is created and will be going for software testing based on test cases. The assessment criteria for this project will be the precision password saved and retrieved, the secure mechanism to access into system as well as its user friendliness, such as automated login and etc. The level of achievement from this project will be considered as having some distance away from the complete and expected product, but is already having its core function ready to be enhanced. The strength of the system will be its high level of security being provided to ensure the system will not be compromised easily as well as its ease to use. The major weakness of the system will be in its user friendliness. Performing this project helps to discover on the feasibility of several security techniques, such as different type of encryption algorithm, implementation of steganography and etc.
