Abstract

This study provides guidance for the implementation of a functional quality management system (QMS) in small and medium-sized industries (SMIs). However, recent global analyses of such QMS initiatives highlight the fact that not all of them are successfully implemented. There is an organizational lack of data and information on the soft elements of critical success factors of QMS. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the soft elements of critical success factors and QMS impacts. To help a SMI understand its starting point, some initial states for QMS implementation are defined. This study is based on site visits and questionnaires that surveyed 30 SMIs that are located in Malaysia. Findings revealed that involvement of people and teamwork have a positive relationship with the impacts of QMS.
