Abstract

Stainless steel is the universal name given to a group of steels that does not stain, corrode, or rust as easily as ordinary steel. Due these remarkable features, it is commercially high in demand in worldwide market. Nowadays, stainless steel has become alternate steel for most of the applications to improve products features and quality. Although stainless steel is highly demand in market and as favourite steel in most applications, stainless steel is not stain proof. They do in fact suffer from certain types of corrosion in certain environments after being sensitised and care must be taken to make sure the stainless steel is applicable. Therefore, the knowledge of sensitisation and corrosion of stainless steel are very crucial to have a better understanding. The objectives of these studies are to investigate the influence of different sensitisation times and temperatures in of stainless steel type 304 i.e. to compare the mechanical properties behaviour before and after sensitisation. The aims of this project are to understand and obtain information about sensitisation and corrosion in stainless steel. By the end of this project, the studies will be able to provide some knowledge for society towards sensitisation and corrosion behaviour in stainless steel.
