Abstract

The main objective of this project is to produce a Cast Iron Permanent Mould by using recycle steel. The reason of introducing the used permanent mould casting instead of using sand casting is, to reduce the waste products. Although sand casting is relatively cheaper than permanent mould casting, a lot of waste is produced. Besides, the cost to recycle the sand is very high. Thus in mass production, permanent mould casting is recommended. Although the initial cost might be higher, the permanent mould can be reuse and reuse. Besides, by using recycle steel to produce Cast Iron Permanent Mould, it can lower the cost of the mould. This dissertation discusses the design and making of the Cast Iron Permanent Mould, weaknesses of the permanent mould produced and the solution to reduce casting defect. The design of Cast Iron Permanent Mould was constructed by using SolidWork software. To produce a good Cast Iron Permanent Mould, the design of gating system, cavity (Tensile and Impact test specimen) and dimension of each part should be considered in order to produce Cast Iron Permanent Mould with least defects. By using SolidWork software, 2D and 3D view of the Cast Iron Permanent Mould can be shown.
