Abstract

Reusable Energy Generators, also known as REGs, are powerful, compact and expensive devices that convert heat energy into electric energy. The greatest advantages of reusable energy generators are they can derive their power from wasted heat without using any fuel. Hence, some of thermoelectric devices are used in a variety of applications such as wristwatch, automobile and to power space probe since it is green and renewable. In this project, an experimental tester had been designed and fabricated to conduct performance characterization of the REG system. The performance or power output of REG module is strongly dependent upon the temperature difference across the module and surface roughness at interface. Thus, in this research, heat rejection improvement at the cold side of module and surface improvement by thermal interface material (TIM) are the main focus point to enhance the output of REG system. Two cases of improving technique have been studied in this project: REG system without cooling fan and TEG system with cooling fan and silver paint at the both side. In the cases where the cooling fan was applied, the performance of the REG system was tested with three different air flow speed at 3.41m/s, 4.60m/s and 5.65m/s. The improvement technique had successfully increases the power output of the REG system from 0.6370W to 3.0264W with about 375.1% of increment.
