Abstract

This project is a dielectric strength tester for crude palm oil. This system is disclosed for monitoring the quality of the palm oil. This system is implemented to measure the dielectric strength of palm oil without degrading the palm oil. With this system, the breakdown voltage which the highest voltage that crude palm oil withstands without breakdown can be obtains. The system includes a pulse input, a test gap unit (palm oil equivalent circuit), and a reactive impedance unit. The pulse input port receives a test pulse input signal from a pulse source. The test gap unit provides a test voltage across a test gap while the test gap unit is equivalent to the crude palm oil. The test gap unit has an inherent capacitance. The reactive impedance unit provides impedance in series with the inherent capacitance of the test gap unit that restricts transfer of current to the test gap, and is coupled to the pulse input port and coupled to the test gap unit. The impedance unit includes a first resistor unit in parallel with a capacitor unit. This system is the fundamental to design the palm oil microwave extractor. Before know the dielectric strength of the crude palm oil, the design of the microwave extractor may exceed the dielectric strength of the crude palm oil. As a result the quality of the extracted palm oil may degrade. Microwave extractor with the built in dielectric strength tester can successfully extract the palm oil without degrade the extracted palm oil.
