Abstract

An airplane designed to take off and landing in the water is known as seaplane. The pontoons of the seaplane can be either attached under the fuselage, at both sides of the wings or attach a twin-float at the bottom of the plane. The seaplane model Beriev BE-103 is used for conducting experiment in this project. The purpose of this project is to investigate the stability associated with the hull under the plane during the impact of landing until the seaplane rebounds. The theoretical and experimental research has been undertaken in the field of hydrodynamic impact loads. The hydrodynamic loads experienced by the V-bottom hull is represented by means of dimensionless variables which take into account such factors as the seaplane weight, dead-rise angle, trim angle and initial velocity. The variation of these coefficients during impact was shown to be governed solely by the magnitude of a single parameter, called the approach parameter K, which is determined by the trim angle and flight path angle at the instant of initial contact with the water surface. Landings were covered as wide a range of trim and velocities as practical. Hydrodynamic impact theory was used to determine how well the theory correlated with the empirical data. Comparison of theoretical pitching moment with experimental data obtained through experiments of impact with hull of 34ᵒ dead rise angle show that the experimental results are in reasonable agreement with the theoretical values. Lastly, Matlab programming is used to draft the graph to show the relationship on the stability of the floating device.
