Abstract

A Motorized Coin Separator was successfully fabricated into a workable prototype. In this project, this prototype separate coins according the new coins and old coins of Malaysia. This project has achieved its first objective that is to operate using motor to sort coins according to their values. The second objective is achieving a cost saving motorized coin separator. The second objective is achieved because the material used is plastic filament PLA which is cheaper compared to steel plate. By selecting the cost efficient and durable material, the prototype was printed with 3D Printer with PLA filament in order to sort coins effectively. Various testing on the material has been carried out before deciding which one is used in the prototype. One of the test was setting the Fill Density of the printed part with different percentage. From the result, it is shown that 100% Fill Density is more suitable than 20% Fill Density material. In testing and troubleshooting, there are plenty of problem which have been rectified and solved after the prototype has been printed out. After having several failure on the design, the motorized coin separator have a lot of further improvement when it comes to build an exact model to be used in market. As a conclusion, the prototype of a motorized coin separator has been completed with the ability to sort coins, count the total number of coins and also drop the coins into desired place. The objective of this title is achieved. However, there are a lot more rooms for improvement especially for the sensor part and displaying the number of coins and this will be recommended for future research work.
