Abstract

Augmented reality is going to play a key role in the future for different applications and aspects such as medical, industry, education, and business. There are already some advancements in augmented reality technology in our daily life. However, reliability is the main factor as there are still a lot of uncertainties for this technology to be used especially in the manufacturing industry. With the widespread availability and rapid evolution of smartphones, augmented reality can be now slowly integrated into a smart handheld device as it has built-in inertia measurement unit of GPS, gyroscope, and accelerometer that fulfill the basic requirements of building an augmented reality application. This project is solving the latency of data transfer problems by introducing a mobile augmented reality to conduct real-time information exchange. Secondly, it can resolve the common mistake such as missing instruction manuals by putting the information as augmented content which is in digital form. Simulation of 3D printing also one of the functionalities in this project in order to simulate the movement of the 3D printer as well as provide an estimated printing time according to the size of the object. Vuforia SDK and Unity engine will be used as a software tool to develop the application for this project. The procedures for this project have divided into few parts which are designing, model tracking, communicate with the database and augmented object rendering. Different results in actual 3D printing and simulation of 3D printing have been collected and compared in tabulated form. Some factors such as layer height also found out that it will contribute a larger impact in total printing time. A survey is also conducted to 10 users by giving back their feedbacks in this application.
