Abstract

Glaucoma is known as a common cause to irreversible blindness worldwide. The effect of intraocular pressure (IOP) is dominant towards the biomechanical response of ONH, particularly the lamina cribrosa (LC) within ONH environment based on previous studies. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between mechanical and geometrical properties towards biomechanical response of ONH due to exerting pressure IOP and intracranial pressure, eventually determine the top three influential factors within the ONH biomechanics environment. There are seven input factors regarding exerting pressure, mechanical and geometrical properties considered in eye modeling, then Morris method used to identify the significant factors. Morris method modified by MATLAB to design matrix of input sequences, while the structural eye model built and simulated by ANSYS. The outcome measures of total displacement, stress and strain distributions across ONH are proved that IOP, Young modulus of LC and prelaminar neural tissue were the most significant factors among those seven input parameters.
