Abstract

Rehabilitation equipment plays a neccessary role to assist patients on recovery from a stroke. The Function of a rehabilitation equipment is to enable a stroke patients to be trained with support from the equipment or a care taker, or both. A Gait Harness System rehabilitation equipment is an equipment that supports stroke patients’ body weight for satefy purpose, while the patient undergo a rehabilitation exercise in order to get their leg(s) to regain strength. In this project, a gait harness system was designed for indoor and outtdoor use. The preliminary designs of the equipment is done, body weight support (BWS) system, structure of the gait training equipment and braking system are built in for the safety of the users. Stress and strain analysis were performed to ensure the capability of the design is able to handle the load of the user. Safety factor is also being determined. The main contribution of this project is to design a portable gait harness system for both indoor and outdoor use that is portable and affortable product cost with similar functionality if compared with products available in market. Additional system such as braking system is added to reduce the probability of falling due to the speed of the movement too fast. For outdoor use, the wheels on the gait can be locked to prevent the equipment from moving freely, the user can train on a treadmill, where the speed can be controlled manually.
