Abstract

Vibration absorber (DVA or TMA) is widely applied and developed in the recent year for vibration control. There are 3 different types of vibration absorber which are active control, semi-active control and passive control. Passive vibration absorber is limited in narrow bandwidth of vibration control but semi-active and active control vibration absorber are able to perform wide band vibration control due to their adaptability of varying their parameters. Therefore, passive vibration absorber need to be improve and develop for wide band vibration absorption due to its advantages of cost saving and simplicity. This research aims to design a wide band passive vibration absorber. In this research, a continuous system (cantilever beam) is being experimental verified and the data had been used for the simulation purpose in LMS Test Lab. The parameters of the passive vibration absorber toward the wide band vibration control had been determined which the best location of the attachment point is at the free-end of the cantilever beam and the best targeted frequency is the 3rd mode shape of the cantilever beam. The vibration absorber had successfully performed wide band vibration control and it reduced the peak amplitude for 62% at first mode shape, 87% at second mode shape, 92% at third mode shape and 76% at fourth mode shape.
