Abstract

For the last ten years, sustainability has been the most important factor in readjusting the goals of the metal cutting domain. Tool life span and its attainment criteria have played a highly significant role in controlling the quality of the product. Therefore, this research objective is to study the tool life of uncoated carbide perform in CNC milling machine with dry cutting condition. There are many methods to improve the tool life but this research will be focus on the optimum combination of the parameter such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut to maximize or strengthen the tool life span. The software will be used in this research is Design of Expert which able to determine the optimum combination of the parameter to strengthen the tool life span. The method that had selected to measure the tools flank wear is by using USB-microscope to determine the flank wear value and using TIME3220 as surface roughness tester to measure surface roughness value from the work piece.
