Abstract

Enhancement has been continuously done to the baby stroller features to make the product better and safer to use. However, the comfort level inside the baby stroller according to ISO 2631-1 is still remain unknown from the perspective of vibration analysis and whole-body vibration (WBV) when the baby stroller is in use. Therefore, experiment had been carried out in indoor and outdoor to capture the vibration value transmitted onto the seat and backrest of the baby stroller. This experiment was done with weights from 4kg to 14.14kg, baby subject at 10.30kg as well as weights at 10.30kg. The comfort level in each of the different experiment condition had been identified. The total vibration value for indoor seat and backrest are at maximum of 0.7263 m/s2, comfort Level 3 “Fairly uncomfortable” and at 0.3763 m/s2 in comfort Level 2 “A little uncomfortable” respectively. While, the total vibration value for outdoor seat and backrest are at maximum of 2.5135 m/s2, comfort Level 6 “Extremely uncomfortable” and at 0.8014 m/s2 in comfort Level 3 “Fairly uncomfortable” respectively. Comparing the result, the experimental result showed that indoor experiment has got lower total vibration value than outdoor experiment for both on seat and backrest. Besides, with the same experiment condition, the total vibration value present at the backrest is lower than that of on the seat. Comparing 4 different experiment condition, indoor backrest has got the lowest total vibration value while outdoor seat has got the highest total vibration value. On the other hand, in the experiment of using baby subject and weights at 10.30kg, the result showed that experiment using baby subject present the same pattern as those experiment using weights to mimic baby subject. This can be noticed by the result of indoor seat is higher than indoor backrest and outdoor seat is higher than outdoor backrest. Comparing between indoor experiment using baby subject and weights at 10.30kg, indoor seat percentage of difference is 31.66% or 0.1912 m/s2 while indoor backrest percentage of difference is 26.50% or 0.0668 m/s2. For outdoor experiment using baby subject and weights, outdoor seat percentage of difference is 9.69% or 0.1618 m/s2 while outdoor backrest percentage of difference is 0.47% or 0.0029 m/s2.
