Abstract

Clean and safe drinking water remains a chronic global problem, mainly in rural and off-grid locations. Conventional water purification equipment, such as reverse osmosis and chemical methods, although effective, is power-consuming, cost-ineffective and requires advanced infrastructure. The goal of this project is to design and build a Solar-Powered Distillation System which overcomes all these limitations using a combination of passive solar heat and active systems fueled only by renewable energy sources. The gadget includes a box-shaped water vessel containing unclean water, covered with a single slope top, a water heater, and a solar panel to charge the auxiliary components. From a wide literature search, many known solar still designs and performance improvement methods were analyzed. The system has been envisioned with sustainability, efficiency, and affordability in mind. Advanced technical analysis, material selection, efficiency calculation, and social impacts have been considered. In the report, it is concluded that the imagined system is a viable and environmentally friendly option to provide clean drinking water to populations without access to centralized water systems
