Abstract
Solar energy is becoming widely adopted as a sustainable and renewable energy source. The maximum harvesting of the energy by photovoltaic (PV) systems requires ideal orientation of the panels, even if this poses problems for small-scale consumers since the technical expense and complexity of completely automatic tracking systems are considerable. This project deals with the creation of a manual adjustable multi-directional solar panel stand to optimize the tilt angle of solar panels through easy effort and cost. The solar energy can be captured and stored in batteries for use in the future, and hence the system is very practical and beneficial for small-scale consumers. The conceptual design phase consisted of establishing user requirements, researching possible designs, and selecting a semi-automatic system with a servo motor and manual controller for vertical angle manipulation. The prototype was made using a a plastic tube and3D-printed component to enable able easy development and testing of the Mechan structure, base was incorporated to ensure maximum mobility. The design encourages stability, ease of use, and adaptability to a variety of small-scale applications, with potential adaptation in the future using more durable materials, such as galvanized steel or aluminium alloy. This chapter discussed the expected performance and initial test outcomes of the semi-automatic solar panel mounting system. The outcome of the test shows that the system is efficient when it comes to manually tracking the position of the sun both during the day and seasonally, making it possible to maximize solar energy harvesting as compared to stationary mounting systems. The design proposed here represents an affordable, practical, and workable approach to solar energy harvesting by residents, students, and rural dwellers
