Abstract

The title of this dissertation namely design and fabrication of aluminium sheet metal stamping die. In the project, I, Chai San Yong, am responsible to design and fabricate the lower part of die. One of the main purposes to make die is flexible. Therefore, process like welding in order to joint parts together may not probably to use during die fabrication. The bolts and buts will be used to joining the steel material together. Material selection also one of the points needs to be considered before fabrication. Materials selection need to choose wisely, select those which available and applicable into the design. After all the design of die was completed, the following steps were fabricating the dies by using CATIA software to generate the NC code, CNC machine, milling machine, lathe machine, saw blade and so on. Then comes to assembly process when all the die components were completed machining. All the plates and components were assembled onto self fabricated die set to complete as a die. When assembly complete, then the die will be taken to the hydraulic press machine to stamping out the stamping sample as final product. Making adjustment during setting the die on the press stamping machine also was an important step before start the stamping process. It ensures the sheet metal product stamped were under satisfying condition. After the first stamp, the aluminium sheet metal is pushed further inside into the die to continue for second stamp. It requires six times of stamping process to complete forming shapes that required for a single sheet metal product.
