Abstract

Basically, this project is concerned with the design and fabricated plastic injection moulding. The product design is to make a souvenir. Firstly, deals with the study of plastic injection mould machine, hopper, barrel, reciprocating screw, feeding section, transition section, metering section, and nozzle. Secondly, is the most important part, as it deals with the product design and designs the mould construction. In the mould constructions design including the spacer block, movable plate (core), puller pin, guide pin and clamp plate (code side). The product and the mould is design using Solidwork. Besides that, in this section also covers generate NC code by using the CAD/CAM software Catia. Other than that, using the TOP Cam simulation to simulate the NC code generate by the Catia. Next, is the machinery process section which is the process of machining the raw material into required shape and dimensions. The machinery process used included CNC milling, grinding, MIG welding, polishing and etc. In the CNC milling process, QMODEM software is software that can helps us transfer the NC code from PC to CNC milling machine. After these machinery processes, the mould is to be assembled before mould testing. In the testing process, we are using the plastic injection mould machine in college to produce the products. When doing this project, a lot of problems are facing such as designing problem, machining problem, and testing problem. In the machining, the RPM and the feed rate need to be calculate properly as well as the use of tool has to consider such as the types of tool and the types of material need to cut. Lastly, the mould is successful make but the plastic product is not fully injected out due to the short shoot of the machine. The machine limitations need to be considering in order to avoiding the short shoot.
