Abstract

The screw sorting machine is designed for small or medium industry used. The machine is able to perform sorting functions which can sort three different sizes and three different length of screw into nine groups. This sorting function can be done by using an unbalance motor to vibrate nine plates with specific design of gap to sort the screws. The nine groups of the screws include M3(8mm,10mm, 12mm), M4(8mm,10mm,12mm), and M5(8mm,10mm,12mm). The screws are sorted step by step from M5 12mm to M3 8mm. Each group of screws will stay on one plate after the sorting process. The motor is control by the PLC and then cylinder and valve is use in our machine in order to perform the screw collect function by pushing the nine plates to let the screw drop down to collect box. Actually our design concept is very simple because screw sorting process is using the gravity method which means let the screws dropping to each plate due to gravity only. But we are design an unbalance motor to generate vibration to make sure all the screws are drop through the gap. This project is handled by the author and partner. This thesis consists of mechanical parts design and gap design on the plate. During this project, I used the solidwork software to perform 3D drawing to design the machine parts and then send it to fabricator and fabricate it. The machine parts are fabricated and can be able assembled into a machine body. In the end of this project, the prototype is successfully built. An experiment had been carried out on the prototype and the size of the screws can be sorted well after the process. But there are some problems during the length sorting process. Discussion on the problem and error during the experiment is written in this thesis as well.
