Abstract

The shuttlecock launcher is an electromechanical machine which imitates a badminton training-partner. Its primary purpose is to launch badminton shuttlecocks at various heights and locations on the court so that the players can exercise rallies and train their reflex. Since badminton shuttlecocks have irregular shapes and are not solid, the mechanism to feed, aim and launch a shuttlecock can be challenging. Currently there is very limited selection in the market for badminton shuttlecock launchers. The overall design can be categorized to two main parts which are mechanical part done by the author and the electrical part design by his project partner. The mechanical part design involves: a) A cam mechanism design b) A spring mechanism design c) An ejection part to shoot or eject out the shuttlecocks d) A rotating system design with v-belt and pulley Meanwhile, the design requirements for the mechanical parts are actuated by stepper motors, and this electrical design is using Controlling Stepper Motor in this shuttlecock launcher. This PIC microcontroller based project uses PIC16F876A to control SD02B (stepper motor driver) further drive a stepper motor (unipolar) with variable speed and bi-directionally. Start/stop instruction and CW/CCW instruction are controlled by push buttons meanwhile the speed of motor is controlled by potential meter.
