Abstract

Most of the off road vehicles are using the portal axle in order to have a higher clearance to the ground. Facture of the output are often to be found at the output shaft of the portal axle unit. This project is the Stress analysis of the output shaft of portal axle unit using 2D and 3D finite element modelling and simulation. The purpose of this study is to simulate the stress analysis on the output shaft of the portal axle unit. This study involved the process of designing by using Solidwork software and ANSYS stress simulation software for stress applies simulation. In the Result and data, and conclusion of the dissertation will shows out all the result obtained of the whole project. The result obtained will show possibility of the stresses acting on the output shaft. The best model of parameter is the 5mm inner diameter and a combined optimized model has been created. It has the lower maximum stress obtained than the solid shaft. Besides that, maximum torqueses that can withstand are in the analysis too. It has shown the maximum stress that each parameter model that can withstand before it facture. However, the improvements of the designs of the output shaft are possible.
